The Center for Plain Language invites you to join this behind-the-scenes look at the pediatric plain language trial summary that earned the 2026 Grand ClearMark Award. Health Literacy Media will share how the team developed the template, wrote and designed for readers as young as 12 years old, and refined the final product using feedback from parents and children. Participants will learn practical techniques for planning, writing, designing, and testing lay summaries that make complex information easier to understand.

Join In-Game Learning co-founders Christopher Balmford and Cinzia Theobald for a live demonstration of The Plain Game, an interactive online workplace training experience that teaches people to write in plain language. They’ll share the game’s origins, show how stories, quizzes, and challenges support learning, and explain how they kept the experience fun, effective, and aligned with ISO’s international plain language standard. Celebrate International Plain Language Day with a practical conversation about one of the best ways to know whether a communication works: test it with the people it’s intended for. User testing helps communicators see their work through the audience’s eyes and identify problems they might otherwise miss. Three experts will share real-world experience, answer common questions, and discuss how to overcome barriers such as time, cost, finding participants, and knowing what to ask. The session will include audience polls and opportunities to ask your own questions. $45 for Center members | $75 for non-members | Recording available to registrants
